ROD MELVIN is a London based pianist , performer and composer.
EARLY WORK : After a classical piano training he studied Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art and Reading University.
From Reading came The Moodies , a performance group using songs and visuals. They performed at theatres, art colleges and toured extensively in Germany where a film was made by Wolf Gremm ("The Moodies").
Rod also collaborated with Lindsay Kemp in several shows (as musician / performer ). He returned to Germany to feature in a cinema movie directed by Wolf Gremm . There he met Evelyn Kunneke, German singer with whom he performed at the ICA London.
RECORDINGS: After playing piano on sessions for Brian Eno ( Another Green World , Music For Films albums and I'll Come Running To Tie Your Shoe / Wimoweh single + years later the Nerve Net album ) he joined Kilburn & The High Roads, Ian Dury's band ( Handsome album and various singles). Ian and Rod collaborated on song-writing including "What A Waste" ( UK Top 10 ) and "England's Glory" ( recorded by legendary Max Wall ).

RESIDENCIES : Rod has had various long-term residencies as pianist / singer ( eg Le Pont De La Tour, L'Escargot, Groucho Club ,Corrigan's Mayfair all in London) and has been in demand to provide music for events ( Dame Vera Lynn's birthday, Sir Peter Blake's birthday, South Bank Show Awards, British Fashion Council Awards etc)
THEATRE : work includes several productions at National Theatre London , Arts Theatre and Wilton's (Immodesty Blaize ), Bush Theatre (Lindsay Kemp , The Moodies )The Roundhouse , Purcell Room (Arnold Brown). ICA Theatre (Will Gompertz multi-media shows).
FILM & TV MUSIC : Rod has written and performed music for : Churchill The Hollywood Years, Sex Actually, Coilin & Platonida, Stella Street , Chemical Wedding, Beyond Biba , Absolutely Fabulous The Movie
ACTING : Rod appeared in The Moodies (German TV), Meine Sorgen Mucht Ich Haben (cinema).
